World Tour Surfer

"Damon and I crossed paths 12 years ago when he scouted me for sponsorship. I was drawn to the company he was working for because I felt he was the influence I needed to further my career as a professional surfer.

Damon's guidance for me reaching the world stage was beyond my expectations. As a team manager and coach, he helped develop my style and mould it to the Air Show, World Qualifying and World Championship tours. His understanding of surfing on the world stage was impeccable and helped me bring a fresh breath of surfing to the WCT.

Adapting my aerial approach to the coloured jersey, Damon also helped me work on my weaknesses which ended up making me a world title contender. Damon has traveled with me to a lot of tour events, helping with style, technique, performance, equipment, location and heat preparation. 

Damon coaches and leads by example in the water, his own surfing speaks for itself, leaving you confident he knows what he is talking about. Damon is a great mentor and when I am in his presence I feel confident and relaxed - his wisdom is infectious."

"Over the years Damon has been an important and supportive advocate within my own career. When competing on the WSL he was my go-to guy whenever I was in Australia. Damon would accompany myself and twin brother Damien to all the events down under.

Damon's knowledge was impeccable - allowing us to have a coach who understood the waves at each location and the boards that were needed at each event. He took the extra stress off our shoulders so we could focus on surfing. On game day we would rely on Damon for board choice, line up positioning, heat breakdown execution and truthful and encouraging feedback.

The Australian leg played an important role in my World Title win as the results from that leg ended up being crucial points that were needed at the end of the year. Damon played a major role in Australia, he was also with me in Hawaii when the title was clinched and his support on board selection, heat strategy and his calm energy combined with other elements helped me win a WSL World Title!

I am off tour these days and I have taken on coaching roles for other elite surfers. I still use Damon's guidelines within my own coaching role today."

"I was a teenager when Damon signed me as an athlete to the business where he was the International Marketing & Athlete Manager.

I was a raw, naturally talented surfer who was lost with which pathway to follow. Should I try and be a free surfer, a competitor or neither? Damon helped me carve my own niche in the surfing world, supporting and guiding me while extracting the good he saw in me.

He could see I struggled with the structure of a 20-minute heat, but knew my surfing belonged on the world stage. He pushed me to become a free surfer, which is now my career. The perception of a free surfer is they just go surfing without much thought, but there's a lot more to it than that. I needed help on my style, surfing structure, equipment and how to market myself - things which Damon played an important role in.
